Some hikes are memorable because they're challenging. Others are memorable because of the view at the end. Earnslaw Burn is both. The walk takes you through open farmland, alongside crystal-clear rivers and into a valley surrounded by towering cliffs and countless waterfalls cascading from hanging glaciers. It's one of those places where you stop every few minutes, not because you're tired, but because you can't believe what you're looking at.
Of course, we weren't going to hike all that way without packing coffee. There's something incredibly satisfying about pulling out a grinder, brewing a fresh cup and sitting back while waterfalls crash all around you. The coffee somehow tastes better out there. Maybe it's the fresh mountain air, maybe it's the effort it took to get there, or maybe it's simply because everything slows down when you're surrounded by scenery like this.
If Earnslaw Burn isn't already on your adventure list, it should be. Pack a lightweight coffee kit, take your time, and don't rush back to the car. Some places deserve more than a quick photo before you leave. They deserve a proper coffee, a comfortable rock to sit on, and enough time to simply enjoy being there.
